The Hot Spring Spas T20 Tauranga Black Clash in association with Wolfbrook pits New Zealand’s biggest sporting stars of rugby and cricket against each other in a high-intensity, hugely fun T20 cricket match at Bay Oval in Tauranga.
Entering it’s sixth year, Team Cricket currently lead the series over Team Rugby 3-2. Do not be fooled, Team Rugby players are no slouches on the cricket pitch, with every match coming down to the wire. In a magnificent move, for the 2024 match, Team Rugby have secured one of the best batsman of all time to play as their wildcard in January. West Indies superstar Brian Lara is coming out of retirement to take on his former cricketing foes and help Team Rugby to try to level the series.
Known as The Prince of Port of Spain, or simply The Prince, West Indian superstar Brian Charles Lara’s individual feats on the cricket pitch have stood the test of time.
The 400 not out Lara smashed against England in 2004 stands alone as the highest test score – and only quadruple century – by any batter, while the 501 (also not out) that Lara blasted for Warwickshire in county cricket will likewise never be topped as the highest innings in first class cricket.
Team Cricket will however field another stellar line up of NZ’s biggest cricketing heroes with an exciting yet to be announced wildcard player to cross the Tasman and join the side, whilst Team Rugby have a wealth of current and former All Blacks legends alongside Lara to lead the upstart Team Rugby’s charge.
Many of the Team Rugby players are in fact extremely talented cricketers. The nature of professionalism in the modern era meant they had to choose at quite a young age which sport to pursue. Stay Tuned for regular player announcements!
So get your crew together, whether it’s the family, a group of friends or you want to entertain your clients, the Black Clash is a huge night of sportainment on the field and plenty of fun off it! Do not miss this!
