Tauranga

Tauranga means ‘place of rest or anchorage’ in Māori and while the sparkling harbour and magnificent views make it a great place to relax and recharge, there’s also plenty to keep you busy.

Tauranga is the largest city in the Coastal Bay of Plenty and is home to approximately 140,000 people. The sprawling city is virtually surrounded by water – locals’ lives consist of fishing, diving, swimming and simply enjoying the stunning views from almost every corner.

Effortlessly connected to the rest of the country, Tauranga is an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland, 1 hour 30 minutes from Hamilton and 45 minutes from Rotorua.  There are also direct flights into Tauranga Airport from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Stay

From high-end hotels to beachfront holiday parks and everything in between, there’s a huge variety of accommodation options in Tauranga.  The beachfront Cutters Cove Resort Apartments is a truly stylish and spacious home away from home, or if hotel stays are more your thing the 4.5 star Trinity Wharf Hotel is located over Tauranga Harbour. For a piece of history and style, the boutique Clarence Tauranga dates back to the early 1900’s and sits within the walls of Tauranga’s historic post office.

For family camping getaways, Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park sits at the base of Mauao whilst Pāpāmoa Beach Resort is situated on the absolute beachfront of Pāpāmoa Beach.
